Cpl Jones shouts loudly as he runs around. OK I apologise for the Dad’s Army connotations, but I cannot help thinking today at Brighton, Cameron will have to give the speech of his life, just to keep his own troops buoyed up and his Team Cameron onside.
Is it beginning to unravel ? A year ago Conservatives were telling me and the rest of you that they will win power if they make this a contest between David Cameron and Gordon Brown because the public want David Cameron like some X factor contestant. I was uneasy with that as for me what I know about life is that few of us in Swindon want to be bossed around by someone with little or no experience.
MPs were told to shut up and accept the rule of Osborne and Cameron. I thought hang on that is unconstitutional.
The David Cameron speak was all about this is a change election. I have never been able to swallow that one easily. I kept asking what the change is because I was not being told by anyone what it actually was. Cut Deeper, cut hard and Austerity was all I kept hearing. All I could see was that power was being taken from elected councillors, MPs, party members and party workers to be given to a handful of spin doctors and party executives.
They talked of bankruptcy, mass migration, a European superstate, the rise of China, and bullying the response from Team Cameron was vote for me for the answers to all this but I will tell you later. My cast iron guarantee can be trusted!
The Conservative Party has contracted the boundaries of the British constitution of parliamentary and local government to a point where it can be concealed into a black box. That is not what freedom is all about, so why change to politicians that support that type of approach?
I realised it was going wrong when I spoke to older people and hard working families that they did not want to vote for a wait and see approach. They were not sucked in by a smart PR image and a slick airbrush. I know it surprised Tories that it had been bought into it, so easily and so radically.
I was surprised by the wholesale and incredibly arrogant tinkering with the governance system and conservative thought of fairness and openness. It is not your patriotic duty to fight an election, based on fear and uncertainty it is to give the country hope and reassurance that all people will all be included. Not just a chosen few that have the delegated authority to do as they see fit! Worse still they are supported by acolytes that should know better.
Cameron and Osborne have had short political lives their experience is no big shake, and for me the do not appear to understand people, which are described as the ordinary voter. People vote, they are not consumers and neither are they ordinary voters. I only ever speak to people. Who do you actually speak to Mr Cameron and Mr Osborne? What is more interesting who are you speaking for?
